This staircase, also known as the fishermen's stairs, were a public right-of-way down the bank to a small fish house and boat landing used by fishermen and gunners for many years. The hotel at the right rear of the photo is the Boar's Head Hotel, which was destroyed by a fire in September 1893. Reprinted from a 1902 Souvenir booklet.
